Contact card QR code generator

Scanning it opens a filled-in new-contact screen. Good on business cards, name badges and email signatures.

What a vCard code contains

Rather than a link, this code encodes a vCard — the same standard format (RFC 6350) that address books use. The phone reads it and offers to create a contact with the fields already filled in. No internet connection is needed at scan time, which makes it reliable at trade shows and in basements with no signal.

Keep it short, and here is why

Everything you add makes the pattern denser, and a denser code needs to be printed larger to scan reliably. A business card is small, so there is a real trade-off.

Name, one phone number, one email and a website is usually the right amount. A full postal address, a job title, a company name and a note can push the code past what prints legibly at 20mm on a card.

The panel under your code shows the version and module count as you type. If you watch it jump as you add fields, you are watching the code get harder to scan.

The characters that break vCards

Commas, semicolons and backslashes have structural meaning in the format and must be escaped. A job title like "Director, Operations" will split into two fields in a generator that gets this wrong. We escape per the specification, so type naturally.

Static means permanent — in both directions

This code never expires and needs no subscription. It also cannot be updated. If you change jobs or numbers, every printed card is wrong.

If you reprint cards often, or your details change, a dynamic code pointing at a hosted contact page is the better choice: the printed pattern stays the same and you edit the details behind it. That needs an account; the free plan includes three dynamic codes.

Will it work without internet?

Yes. The contact details are in the pattern, so no connection is needed.

Why is my code so dense?

Too many fields. Remove the postal address and any note first — they are usually the largest contributors.

vCard or a link to a contact page?

vCard for permanence and offline use. A link if your details change, or you want to know how many people scanned it.
