Uniqode alternatives
If you are looking to move off Uniqode, the thing to get right is not which product you pick — it is making the switch without reprinting anything. This page covers how to do that, what to check before you commit, and who the realistic options are, including the ones that are not us.
Switch without reprinting: the method
A dynamic QR code is just a redirect. That means you can chain redirects, and that is the safe way to migrate. Do it in this order:
- Do not cancel Uniqode yet. Everything below depends on the old codes still resolving.
- Create the replacement codes on the new platform, pointing at the same final destinations.
- Repoint each Uniqode code at its replacement’s short URL. Your printed codes now scan → Uniqode → new platform → destination. Nothing visible changes for the person scanning.
- Watch the scan counts on the new platform for a week or two. They should match what Uniqode was reporting.
- Reprint at your own pace, replacing old codes as material is reordered rather than all at once.
- Only then consider cancelling — and only once anything still in circulation has been replaced, or you have accepted that those items will stop working.
The one thing that breaks this method is cancelling early. Find out, in writing, what Uniqode does to dynamic codes on a lapsed account before you touch the subscription.
What to check before you pick a replacement
These are the questions that predict whether you will be writing this same page again in two years:
- What happens to my codes if I stop paying? Ask for the answer in the terms, not in a sales email.
- Is scan recording capped? A cap on recording is different from a cap on redirects, and it is the one that silently ruins reporting.
- Can I export static fallbacks? If the answer is no, you are choosing a vendor you cannot leave without reprinting.
- Is billing monthly? Annual-only pricing is a reasonable discount structure and an unreasonable requirement.
- What does a custom domain cost? Prices for this vary by a factor of more than a hundred across the category.
The realistic options
We make one of these, so weigh this section accordingly. We have tried to describe the others as their own customers would.
ScanMePlz
Free plan with 3 dynamic codes and no scan cap; $4/month entry. Codes freeze rather than break if you stop paying, and every plan can export static fallbacks.
Bitly
The best-known link shortener, with a long operating history. Free plan: 2 QR codes per month, 5 links, no analytics history. From $10/mo (Core, billed annually). Checked 2026-10-04.
QR TIGER
One of the lowest paid entry points in the category. Free plan: 3 dynamic codes with a 500-scan cap, reported to carry ads. From ~$7/mo billed annually (~$9.99 monthly). Figures unverified.
Flowcode
The best-looking codes in the category, and the design tooling to match. Free plan: 2 codes, analytics for up to 500 scans. From $25/mo (Pro Plus, billed annually). Checked 2026-10-04.
QRCode Monkey
Genuinely free, with no signup and no watermark. Free plan: Unlimited static codes, free, no signup. From Free (a paid tier is reported but conflicts with "completely free"). Figures unverified.
A free static generator
If you do not need to edit or track codes, a static generator removes the entire problem. Nothing to subscribe to means nothing to lapse.
Where Uniqode is still the right answer
Switching has a real cost, so it is worth being clear about when not to:
- The strongest brand in the mid-market, with real enterprise governance features
- Deep analytics and team management that we do not attempt to match
- 30-day money-back guarantee, stated on their pricing page
- If you need SSO, audit trails and procurement, Uniqode is a serious choice and we are not
If several of those describe your situation, the honest recommendation is to stay. The migration method above will still be here if that changes.
Will my printed codes break if I leave Uniqode?
Not if you migrate rather than cancel. Keep the Uniqode subscription alive long enough to repoint each dynamic code at its replacement, and the printed pattern never changes. Cancel first and you are relying on Uniqode’s policy for lapsed accounts — check it in writing before you cancel anything.
Is there a free alternative to Uniqode?
For static codes, yes — QRCode Monkey is free with no account, and so is our own generator. For dynamic codes, free tiers exist but are small: ours gives three with no scan cap. Be careful with free dynamic codes elsewhere; several platforms cap scans or expire codes on free plans, which is how most of the horror stories start.
How do I export my data from Uniqode?
Most platforms offer a CSV of codes and scan history somewhere in settings. What almost none offer is a static fallback image per dynamic code — the thing that would let you leave without reprinting. Ask for it before you commit to any platform, including this one. (We generate it on every plan; it is called the Permanence Kit.)
